SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Groundman performs various manual labor and equipment operation tasks to assist the gas crew to install, maintain, and service gas distribution lines and equipment. This is an entry-level position that may be used to prepare the worker for entry into a Journeyman Gasman Apprenticeship. The Groundman may be called upon to assist gas crews in emergency situations.Groundman will work under the direct supervision of the gas foreman or leadman.EMPLOYMENT STATUS:SeasonalFull-time (layoff expected 12/17/2021, subject to rehire the following spring)DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAll NorthWestern Energy employees are required to adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct and EthicsEnsure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energys values, mission, and strategic business objectivesAssist the gas crew to install, maintain, and service gas distribution lines and equipmentCommunicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situationsAssist gas crew in response to natural gas emergencies and service work regarding all aspects of natural gasSafely and skillfully operate equipment, shovels and hand tools to dig around pipelines and other utilities, uncover lines, and backfill trenchesUse heavy handheld tamping or jackhammer equipment to prepare or finish site workComplete finish work associated with gas services including wrapping and coating pipesAbility to work overtime hoursWork as a team member to safely and efficiently complete work activitiesCommunicate as needed to maintain safe working conditionsPerform individual lift of equipment weighing up to75 poundsMARGINAL WORK FUNCTIONS*These functions may be considered essential based on location and other factors.Drive to installation locations*Adapt to technological changes as they are implemented*Provide assistance to gas crews in support of service work to install, maintain, or repair the natural gas distribution system.
