Midwest Medical Transport Wheelchair Van Driver in Aberdeen, South Dakota

Summary/Objective

Responsible for transporting ambulatory and non-ambulatory persons (in wheelchairs) via wheelchair van.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Safely operate and maintain a Wheelchair Van while in compliance with all laws pertaining to the operation of the vehicle while transporting patients

  • Interact professionally with other health care personnel

  • Interact professionally with disabled, disadvantaged, sick and injured persons

  • Complete daily vehicle inspection and equipment checklist

  • Cleaning of vehicles (inside and outside)

  • Cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures

  • Restocks and replace used linens, blankets and other supplies

  • Makes careful check of all equipment so that the Van is ready for the next run

  • Maintains Van in efficient operating condition

  • Collecting payments and issuing receipts if needed

  • Secures all passengers in van per the Company Passenger Securement Policy

  • Responsible for safe loading/unloading of all passengers

  • Ensures all reports, letters, and documentation are accurate and completed in timely fashion

  • Maintain a clean appearance, demonstrating courteous, professional and ethical behavior

Competencies

  • Possess good verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of geographical area or use of GPS device

  • Current & valid state driver’s license

  • Three years of driving experience

Work Environment

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of weather conditions.

  • Majority of employee’s time is spent driving a company vehicle.

  • Traveling to and from health care facilities, private residences and local EMS stations

Physical Demands

  • Must possess physical agility necessary to lift and move patients safely

  • Bending, sitting, kneeling, lifting and driving

  • Must safely be able to move patients from beds and/or chairs into and out of wheelchairs

  • Pushing a wheelchair. (should be able to lift, carry, push & pull 100 pounds)

  • Placing wheelchair in the wheelchair van and seeing that the patient and wheelchair are secured per policy

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full & Part time positions are offered, length of shift is dependent upon location.

Travel

Traveling from location to location. No overnight travel required.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma

  • 3 years driving experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Familiarization of geographical area and use of maps or GPS devises

  • Current CPR training or must successfully complete, within 30 days of employment

  • Current First Aid training or must successfully complete within 30 days of employment

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Current & valid state driver’s license

  • Must pass company provided PCP physical capacity profile exam (post offer, pre- employment) & Drug Screen

  • Meet company policy MVR criteria

  • Must successfully complete company sponsored EVOC
