3M is seeking a Resident Control Systems Engineer for Engineering’s Process Information and Control Solutions (PI&CS) organization at its Brookings, South Dakota manufacturing facility. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Resident Control Systems Engineer, will be responsible for providing effective control system solutions for a wide variety of new or existing automated process equipment that is used to manufacture 3M products in support of Medical Solutions Division. Specific responsibilities include the specification, design, integration, and start-up of control technologies. These control technologies include motion control, human machine interface, PLC control, drives, sensors and measurement devices.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Development and design of the control system architecture

  • Control systems cost estimate and schedule development

  • Hardware purchasing and control panel build

  • Engineering drawing development, including P&IDs

  • PLC and HMI programming

  • Systems integration

  • Machine commissioning, start up, and check-out

  • Assist in the implementation of site specific safety programs

Within this role, the candidate will develop an expertise in one or more of the following technologies:

  • PLC/HMI programming in a variety of formats and platforms

  • Motor drive systems

  • Motion control

  • Digital and analog systems

  • Control system networking

  • Sensing and measurement devices

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working with machine control system design and commissioning in a private, public, government, or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens controls systems and hardware

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Team player with the ability to contribute in a cross-functional environment

  • Demonstrated project leadership skills

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working with machine control systems, or equipment maintenance and troubleshooting in a private, public, government, or military environment

Location: Brookings, South Dakota

Travel: May include up to 30% domestic/international

Relocation: Is authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
