Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Control Systems Technologist will be a key resource for the 3M Brookings manufacturing plant. This individual will be a member of the Manufacturing Engineering organization and will report directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Identify, design, implement, and lead various technical projects associated with manufacturing equipment across all site businesses.

  • Develop extensive high-level troubleshooting capabilities to provide tactical support for day-to-day manufacturing operations.

  • Respond to daily business needs (safety, quality, service, cost) and all project activities with critical thinking while employing Lean Six Sigma Methodologies.

  • Identify, lead and collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve and improve equipment reliability and efficiency.

  • Lead controls aspects of capital projects with Division Engineering partners

  • Lead strategic improvement initiatives for the site

  • Support Systems Technicians with tactical projects and growth

  • Drive continuous improvement activities for the plant

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a technical diploma/degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in a private, public, government or military environment in one or more of the following areas: engineering, manufacturing, and/or production

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution

  • Minimum five (5) years of project work focused using robotics, PLC programming, vision, automation, and SCADA experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated strength in engineering/technical skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong communication skills both verbal and written, analytical and organizational skills to manage different priorities

  • Self-directed mindset that leads with high energy and works with minimal supervision or guidance

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and remain flexible to changes; responds with a sense of urgency

  • Training and experience in Lean Six Sigma methodology

Location: Brookings, SD

Travel: May include up to 10%
