Daktronics Manufacturing Process Engineer Student in brookings, South Dakota

  • Aid full time staff in

  • Recommending process improvements to streamline product flow and be responsible for implementation of process improvements/lean manufacturing concepts.

  • Implement quality improvement initiatives and will work with both engineering and manufacturing to ensure its effectiveness.

  • Create and document manufacturing process standards.

  • Assist in collecting data to support process development.

  • Perform time studies.

  • Evaluate quality data.

  • Research manufacturing technologies and machine tool.

  • CAD modeling for tooling and fixture.

  • Design safe and ergonomic work station.

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.

  • Work effectively as a team member, work with little supervision, help when and where needed, make suggestions for process and product improvement. Be at work on time and maintain good attendance. Be willing to work additional hours as necessary.

  • Other duties as needed to assist manufacturing departments.

  • Lean Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Lean organization with analytical and problem solving to identify and eliminate waste within our manufacturing and business processes.

  • Collect and analyze data to support Lean implementation.

  • Work with various teams to facilitate team meetings and complete identified actions that support continuous improvement activities.

  • Work with various teams to design, prototype, and develop process workstations.

  • Assist with the development of plant layout schemes to improve material handling and process flow.

  • Work with various teams to recommend sustainable improvements that enhance ergonomic/safety of the operation.

  • Assist with creating and presenting training as it relates to Lean techniques.

  • Work with various functions throughout the corporation and plants to assure Lean techniques are being deployed consistency.


Academic -

  • The ideal candidate must be a fulltime student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree in their sophmore, junior or senior year of school. Only strong performers in undergraduate coursework will be considered. Must maintain an acceptable GPA.

  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position.

Other -

  • Daktronics experience preferred.

  • Computer software experience to include experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, with Creo and Visio preferred but not required.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. Fluent in English; written and verbal.

  • Ability to learn quickly.

  • Good analytical and organizational skills required.

  • Ability to interact with a variety of manufacturing and engineering employees in a positive, professional manner.

  • Ability to successfully participate as a member of a team.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

  • Physical Requirements include the ability to:

  • Lift and carry up to 45 pounds

  • Distinguish and identify wire colors

  • Ability to work with odors (solder/coating)

  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked.

  • Background check may be conducted.
