Brookings City Outreach Services Coordinator- PT in Brookings, South Dakota

General InformationPart-time schedule less than 20 hours per week. Under the general supervision of the Director of Library Services, is responsible for providing materials for those patrons eligible for Outreach Services. The work schedule will vary, however, the Outreach Services Coordinator will mainly work Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Duties include: making contacts by telephone calls and/or personal visits to those patrons eligible for the services of the Outreach Program. Includes selecting books when no specific patron requests are made. One visit to each person every two weeks will be the standard. Maintaining user profiles and circulation records. Submitting to the Director of Library Services a monthly and annual statistical report of Outreach activities. Reviewing book selection aids, publisher's catalogs, and brochures and selecting materials which will improve or update the library collection, with particular emphasis on the large print collection. Cooperating with the Director of Library Services in aiding patrons to be aware of the services and procedures for use of materials from the South Dakota Library for the Handicapped. Advertising outreach program to increase patronage. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and other job related duties as assigned. Minimum/Preferred QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.College course work in materials selection and basic bibliography and reference, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of popular adult literature, both past and present, including fiction, biography, westerns, mysteries, non-fiction, romance and science fiction.Knowledge of library organization, general library practices, and card catalog is desirable. Must cooperate as a team member with the library staff in performing any professional or non-professional duty essential to the achievement of efficient library operations.Must have ability to choose and deliver materials to patrons.Must have ability to organize and schedule work.Must have dependable work habits and ability to deal effectively with the elderly.Must have ability to obtain and maintain valid S.D. driver's license with acceptable driving record.Must have availability of own transportation.Must have excellent public relations abilities and ability to deal effective with the elderly.Must have demonstrated skill in communicating verbally with the public and work cooperatively with others.Ability to operate various types of modern office equipment to include: computer and software, calculator, postage machine and photocopier.Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and work independently.Must be able to multi-task and have good organizational skills.Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity of the office and department.
