KMEG/KPTH-TV, is looking for a Chief Meteorologist!

Do you develop your weather forecasts with attention to unique storytelling each day? Do you embrace creating new graphics and elements to support each day's weather story? Have you accepted that just adding data and numbers in the same maps and forecast pages each day is a thing of the past?

The ideal candidate can produce and deliver compelling, accurate forecasts for broadcast television and our multiple digital and social media platforms. Winning severe weather coverage is a top priority. The ideal candidate must have a strong knowledge of predicting and tracking tornadoes and understand Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska's complex weather patterns. The ideal candidate is personable and has the ability to connect with viewers on-air and during public appearances. This position also calls for live reporting as needed.

This position will require that you work closely with the entire weather team on delivering current expectations for forecasting. You will also be tasked with a leading role across platforms in breaking and severe weather situations.

Required Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in meteorology/atmospheric science is required

  • Must possess the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities

  • Must work well in a team environment

  • Must have excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Good on-air conversational presentation required

  • Knowledge of WSI system

Standout candidates will have:

  • A proven track record of developing a "forecast driven" hyper-local presentation in every weathercast every day.

  • Extensive experience in a leading role during severe and breaking weather coverage across platforms.

  • A proven track record of tracking severe and winter weather events using all available technology during every event.

  • Demonstrated experience in social and digital engagement with consumers daily.

  • A proven ability to create unique and special graphics that support your unique forecasts each day.

  • Extensive experience with WSI weather systems
