Terex Utilities is currently seeking a motivated individual for our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager to support our North American Service team. The right candidate will be an experienced professional with excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills. The candidate should thrive in a changing and dynamic environment and possess the ability to direct, plan, establish, and implements a variety of health, safety, environment, loss prevention programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees, plant facilities, and equipment. As the HSE manager she or he must also ensure safe work conditions and practices that meet all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies and coach site management and personnel on the recognition, elimination and control of occupational hazards and environmental risks.
This person will be responsible for supporting half of the Service Branches within Terex Utilities. (Subject to change, but in the past the position has supported the VA, OH, PA, AL, & TX service branches.) This is a home-based full-time position and preferably near a major airport.
Analyzes and evaluates current health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and practices to ensure they meet all local, state, and national regulatory requirements.
Designs, implements, and maintains all health, safety, and environmental maintenance programs and policies to minimize and eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards associated with work practices.
Establishes safety monitoring and occupational health monitoring programs to ensure all activities meet established requirements. Establishes methods for maintaining site records for occupational and environmental health and safety including documentation on training and certifications.
Performs periodic safety inspections and compliance audits.
Establishes standards and methods of measuring environmental, health, and safety performance.
Assesses training needs related to safety and occupational health and ensures all employees receive the necessary training to perform work in a safe and legal manner. Coordinates and/or administers training. Ensures that all team members are aware of their environmental, health, and safety responsibilities.
Prepares reports including observations, analysis of contaminants, and recommendations for correction. Establishes and maintains effective accident and incident reporting system for all employees.
Collects samples of dust, gases, vapors and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
Investigates the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting and other conditions affecting the health, comfort, efficiency of Team Members.
Conducts evaluations of exposure to noise, particles, gases, fumes etc. and recommends measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
Investigates accidents and incidents to determine the cause and recommends changes to work practices or equipment to minimize or eliminate future safety risks.
Works with outside safety organizations to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary contact responsible for assisting with safety and occupational health audits by these organizations.
Work with medical professionals and insurance carriers to efficiently and effectively manage workers compensation claims including case management/closure, countermeasure implementation and risk mitigation.
Prepares safety and compliance reports as required by management and outside organizations.
Analyzes and provides technical comments on proposed regulatory actions.
Provides input on and participates in HSE strategic planning for business.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and the Utilities HSE Strategic Plan.
Professional specialization and experience in industrial health and safety
Thorough knowledge of regulations affecting environmental, health, and safety
Sedentary may involve constant sitting. Must be able to lift 40 pounds occasionally, frequent lifting of 1-5 pounds.
Home-based position, must be able to travel 20% of time (Occasional international travel may be necessary)
Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental, Health, Safety, Industrial Engineering or equivalent discipline desired
3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in plant safety
Experience or education in heavy manufacturing, ergonomics and environmental compliance is highly desirable
Experience with Workers Compensation and Ergonomics
Well-developed writing and verbal skills sufficient to design, deliver, and communicate training, rules, and procedures; to solve problems and resolve conflict; to investigate incidents; and prepare compliance reports with attention to detail and diplomacy
Strong presentation and training skill
Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite products
Prior experience in analyzing data and incidents, performing gap analyzes, and prioritizing and developing implementation plans
