S/he will assist the Preserve manager in daily activities and assist in other areas as need arises as they pertain to the workings of the preserve.Expected start date of April 26, 2021 with an expected end date of October 8, 2021.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Preserve Management Assistant maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and performs land management activities. S/he removes and/or treats exotic species with herbicides and/or conducts species monitoring and may also manage livestock. S/he will assist in fencing, maintaining tools, equipment and land. They will be assisting with implementing a forestry/fire mitigation plan which includes using chainsaws to remove trees. The Preserve Management Assistant will be required to have a working knowledge of fencing, ranching and range management.RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPESupervises no staff, but may help plan and direct preserve work groups, including staff or volunteers.May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.May require long hours in isolated settings.Makes day to day decisions as delegated by supervisor.May work under infrequent supervision.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED and 1 year's training in science-related field or related experience in land management.Experience recognizing plant and animal species.Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).Experience working in a team environment.Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSMulti-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.1 i 2 years' experience in land management or related field.Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete preserve management activities.Experience in fence construction and signing on a large scale in rough terrain.Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g.; skid steer, chainsaw, tractor, two-way radio, ATV etc.).S-212 Chainsaw training and experience operating a chainsaw preferred.Experience in herbicide application and identification of noxious weeds.Ability to obtain driver's license and maintain a
