National Park Service Maintenance Mechanic in Interior, South Dakota
The primary purpose of this position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. Majority of time will be spent working carpentry, plumbing and painting trade areas.
Conditions of Employment
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic WG-09 without more than normal supervision Have constructed, altered, modified or repaired a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities; planned, computed, and laid out projects and identified material needs; worked from complex instructions, blueprints, sketches and building codes; operated various carpentry equipment and tools; installed, modified, and repaired new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems; painted, decorated, and refinished a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices and buildings, family dwellings, other structures, finishing, and equipment; evaluated conditions of surfaces to be covered and selected surface preparation techniques considering the type and exposure and expected conditions of use; maintained, constructed, repaired, and altered a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone and other related materials; applied appropriate chemical preservatives to masonry surfaces either by spraying or painting; operated hypochlorinators, solution tanks, pressure tanks, valves, mixed medial filters, and reciprocating pumps associated with surface water and well water operations; determined roofing work to be completed, locating leaks and determining their cause and extent of damage, selecting the work method to be followed for repair; operated, repaired and maintained numerous wastewater treatment plant collection systems and water distribution systems; operated a wide variety of vehicles such as 5 cubic yard, 6-wheel drive dump truck (GVW 42,000); 4X4 pick-up trucks ½ ton to 1 ton, diesel powered 52,00 GVW, three axle trash compacting vehicle; 34500 GVW pumper truck with 600 gallon water tank, etc. (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Use of measuring instruments Ability to use and maintain tools, equipment Knowledge of materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
