Indian Health Service Nurse Practitioner (Women's Health) in Kyle, South Dakota

Summary

This position is located at Kyle, SD and provides primary health care to the community with emphasis on reproductive health, primary management of antepartum, postpartum, gynecology, family planning and STD/HIV care in a remote setting within a primary care model addressing issues across the life cycle for all. The Nurse Practitioner involves the patient in care by providing education and guidance for optimum health outcomes. Incumbent is for the most part stationed within the Kyle Health Center

Responsibilities

Provides independent primary comprehensive and therapeutic health care services, to include examining, assessing, diagnosing and treating patient(s) in the OB/GYN Clinic. Provides teaching to patients and their families regarding the disease process, diagnostic tests; the therapeutic regimen including medication, diet and follow-up care. Develops a therapeutic environment which allows patient(s) and families to have confidence in the practitioner. Plans with other health care professionals and agencies involved with providing services to patient(s) and their families and coordinates the care provided. Available as a consultant to other professional and paraprofessional staff throughout the institution on women's health issues.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Upon tentative selection, selectee will be requested to complete, sign, and submit the Addendum to OF-306, Child Care & Indian Child Care Worker Position form. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. On-call hours or standby duty may be required. Security Clearance: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. You will receive instructions on how to obtain and submit fingerprints and background investigation documentation. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. The investigation must find that you are suitable for Federal employment in your position. If you are found not suitable, you will be terminated after you begin work. Qualifications

Fingerprinting, as part of the background investigation process, may be delayed due to COVID-19. All other background investigation procedures will apply. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in the ability to assess and treat acute minor illnesses such as UTIs, ability to assess, treat and counsel on STDs, ability to counsel patients in family planning and birth control measures. Experience in counseling infertility in patients including scheduling and performing routine tests and providing education and support. Performing colposcopy and ultrasound evaluation, experience in obstetrical and gynecological physical evaluations. Experience in evaluating patients for sexual abuse and experience in performing sexual assault exams. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 90 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
