Head of Distribution, Middle Market


Zurich North America is currently looking for a Head of Distribution for our growing U.S. Middle Market Business Unit. The Head of Distribution is in charge of sales and distribution for our Middle Market business segment. The role is measured by the effectiveness of the team in the field as well as in developing relevant strategies, sales capabilities and innovative customer and distribution management practices. This is a critical role and this leader will utilize their expertise to deliver growth and profitability results.

This role reports to the Head of Middle Market and can be based in one of our Zurich Offices.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drives business development across the distribution channel or customer segment

  • Leads the development of distributor and/or customer value propositions, securing the support of all colleagues as required

  • Ensures that customer, distributor or market needs or trends are well understood by country CEO and peers

  • Builds and maintains close relationships with key customers and distributors in area / channel

  • Maintains a detailed understanding of the channel metrics and the drivers of performance variances against expectations

  • Understands how local channel or segment performance compares with peers in other countries and plan to improve relative performance

  • Drives continual improvement in sales effectiveness, including the quality of management information and business practices

  • Drives the development of the Distributor and/or Customer Manager population including visible and demanding leadership of Group talent processes

  • Champions the development of a Sales Culture within the organization

  • Understands and implements all relevant requirements of the Sales & Distribution Function

  • Contributes to the development of Sales & Distribution practices as appropriate

  • Manages resource allocation within channel or segment

  • Manages and, where appropriate, negotiates distributor compensation including strategic distributor’ agreement and terms of business

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 15 or more years of experience in the Distribution or Underwriting areaAND

  • 5 or more years of experience in leadership roles

  • Business unit experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business experience in broking and/or relationship management roles

  • Experience building strong relationships and operating effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders and customers

  • Experience acquiring in-depth understanding of the customer's business and structure

  • Experience with business transactions, including business development and claims processing

  • Well-rounded analytical skills to enable effective performance analyses, broker planning and performance reporting

  • Experience working effectively at global level within a matrix organization

  • Strong communication, consulting, negotiation and influencing skills
