Facebook Open Indoor Systems Architect in Pierre, South Dakota

Summary:

Facebook Connectivity (FBC) is constantly iterating to solve problems, co-develop solutions and deploy networks through direct engagement with the global telecoms industry, including network operators, network equipment vendors and communities such as the Telecom Infra Project (TIP). If you have passion for networks and want to work with network operators, software providers and other industry stakeholders to drive innovative, cost efficient wireless and network software and hardware solutions that accelerate the scaled deployment of a faster internet – then this is a great role for you.As Open Indoor Systems Architect, you will engage with FBC engineering and product teammates as well as TIP Open Wi-Fi community members to design, develop, trial and deploy open source Open Indoor Systems software solutions for wireless and wired networks. In parallel, you will interface as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), with industry leading network engineering partners including hardware/software vendors and systems solution providers. Finally, you will work closely with network operators technical teams to understand and advise how Facebook and its partner’s contributions can be of most impact for indoor connectivity.

Required Skills:

  1. Influence the Community Development of Open Indoor Systems that enable network operators to quickly adopt innovative, lowest total cost of ownership approaches for indoor connectivity

  2. Establish and grow strong teamwork across the TIP community, FBC co-development partner engineering teams

  3. Define and validate system software architectures

  4. Facilitate implementation of high quality, scalable software

  5. Engage directly with Network Operators, SaaS cloud providers, ODM hardware providers, application vendors (ISVs), and System Integrators (SI) technical teams as an engineering subject matter expert

  6. Willingness to work within partner - vendor facilities, able to travel up to 25% of time

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years experience working with C-Level executives as a networking focused software architect - technical expert on large scale, commercial grade operational support systems (OSS), network management and/or SDN controller software systems with specific experience in large scale device provisioning and operator back office systems

  2. 7+ years experience providing technical leadership and individual engineer mentoring to medium to large distributed engineering teams

  3. Experience with network centric software architecture, data model and API design - implementation

  4. Experience with micro-services architectures for network management and automation systems

  5. Experience with the Implementation of modern, containerized cloud solutions

  6. Knowledge of core network, Access Network design and Edge Computing/Function Virtualization

  7. Experience with operator back office OSS systems including Inventory, Assurance and Service Activation

  8. Experience with release engineering and CI/CD tools - DevOps practices

  9. Experience with automated testing of network software

  10. Firm understanding of mobile and in-building wireless network infrastructure and architectures

  11. Familiarity with the evolution and recent development of cellular and Wi-Fi wireless networking

  12. Experience understanding and describing network management and automation solutions for multiple deployment and operations scenarios including in-building/outdoor uses cases, fixed/mobile access, enterprise/public access

  13. Experience taking the lead with partners to define and develop network management and automation systems

  14. BS or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience

  15. Proven leadership, partnership and communication skills, including experience in building presentations to technical and business audiences, experience communicating to audiences at major industry events, as well as authoring industry papers and trade articles
