Facebook Research Engineer Intern, Wireless System (PhD) in Pierre, South Dakota

Summary:
Wireless technologies are a crucial part of Facebook Reality Lab Device Technology Engineering team. As the wireless system architecture team, we study the performance of future AR/VR products in complicated radio and network conditions and gain insights for system design. We utilize the latest developments in the cellular industry to develop AR/VR products with wireless capabilities and work towards areas to optimize facebookâs AR/VR use experiences for both short term and long term. We are looking for interns who have a deep understanding of wireless technology, familiar with system level simulations, have proven analysis and innovation capabilities.
Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Required Skills:
- In this role you will be at the center of the wireless system architecture group responsible for use case analysis, cellular system performance and algorithm design for AR/VR product, with a focus in wireless system modeling, simulations, feasibility analysis for long term evolution of cellular technology in VR/AR domain
Minimum Qualifications:
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Wireless Communications or related field
Deep knowledge of communication system theory and wireless fundamentals
Proficiency and experience in simulation in C/C++, NS3 or Python
Familiarity of 5G (NR) and 4G (LTE) technologies
Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications:
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Cellular system level simulation experiences are strongly desired
Basic understanding of consumer hardware development including RF, antenna, power/thermal constraint
Basic 3GPP protocol layer knowledge is desired
