The Senior Director, Corporate Development (M&A and BD), Infectious Diseases & Vaccines, will:
Lead the development of strategies as related to corporate development and M&A for Infectious Diseases & Vaccines. This role closely interacts with commercial, scientific, legal and financial professionals, and includes responsibility for managing multiple cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
Manage internal evaluation of M&A opportunities including commercial and technical assessment, due diligence, valuation and management reviews, working closely with TA franchise and business development leadership and licensing colleagues.
Provide knowledge and expertise to company evaluations and review analyses and present identified opportunities to executive-level management.
Participate in and lead negotiations with target company senior level management to move merger and acquisition discussions forward. He/she will also actively participate in external networking to generate potential M&A opportunities for J&J. The incumbent must therefore have a solid understanding of the biotech and pharma ecosystem.
Form key relationships with decision-makers and driving communications and alignment with executive stakeholders.
Networking and maintaining relationships with a broad spectrum of internal organizations and external stakeholders (e.g. investment banks and potential partners) to optimize the overall enablement of M&A transactions to support the overall strategies and needs of J&J. Thinks creatively about deal structures and solutions and acts as a champion of deals internally.
Creating and executing well-defined integration plans consistent with business strategy, timelines, and financial targets.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences or related discipline is required
An MBA is preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of overall professional experience is required.
Specific pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred but not required.
Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical and biotech industry is required.
A minimum of 7 years of experience within Business Development, or related experience within Banking and/or Venture Capital is required.
Knowledge of the Infectious Diseases & Vaccines space is preferred.
Strong network in banking is preferred.
Excellent analytical skills including managing commercial and technical assessment of marketed and development stage opportunities is required.
Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation) are critical and required.
Must possess ability to develop relationships and inspire confidence and trust from internal and external partners at all levels.
Working knowledge of the R&D process is required.
Knowledge of financial valuation techniques and inputs required and how to interpret valuation output required.
Experience in formally Directing and/or Managing cross-functional teams is required.
Experience in the development of business strategies is preferred.
Experience leading the due diligence process in an M&A environment is preferred.
The ability to influence across all levels of the organization as well as externally is required.
This position can be located in the US with a strong preference for the candidate to be based out of New Brunswick, NJ.
