Indian Health Service Patient Representative in Pine Ridge, South Dakota
This position is located at the Pine Ridge Hospital within the Quality Management Department located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation within Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a "Patient Advocate" for patients and others, supporting their interests and working with supervisors and managers to resolve potential problems and/or complaints and seek possible modification of hospital practices that cause repeated problems.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications for GS-07: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples include: Working directly with resolving customer complaints and grievances, excellent skill in verbal and written communication, knowledge and skill to work with personnel in the identification of problems and knowledge to maintain accurate and timely records of complaints and final resolution. Minimum Qualifications for GS-09: master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Examples include: Broad knowledge of the Agency and Tribal's organization, operations, rules, regulations, procedures and policies, knowledge to work with clinical staff in the coordination of discharge planning activities, ability to explain hospital policies and procedures, knowledge of medical terminology and Joint Commission Standards. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
