Business Process Management unites the strengths of four category-leading companies to address the complexities of today’s healthcare system. We design, develop and implement integrated, patient-centered solutions for sustained improvements in performance and profitability, working collaboratively across a spectrum of customers that encompasses hospitals, health systems, physician practice groups and payers.

The Remote Certified Tumor Registrar will review clinical documentation as appropriate to extract data and apply ICD-10 codes. To code, stage and abstract cases of cancer and reportable benign tumors diagnosed and/or treated. To participate in research, education and monitoring for quality improvements activities to ensure data integrity and compliance with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Cancer guidelines.

  • Abstract and reviews cases of malignancies and reportable benign tumors diagnosed and/or treated.

  • Codes, stages and enters data into the registry database each case added to the tumor registry utilizing ICD-0, ICD-9-CM, AJCC TNM (Tumor, Nodes, Metastatsis) and Collaborative Staging/Coding, FORDS (Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards) and SEER (Surveillance of Epidemiology and End Results) guidelines.

  • Complies with state and federal mandates that require reporting all diagnosed and/or treated malignancies and reportable benign tumors.

  • Performs data quality control activities on registry data.

  • Retrieves and compiles data for preparation of annual reporting and may collaborate in generating reports for special duties.

  • Prepares minutes for Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Conference on a weekly basis.

  • Contacts patients, providers and state registries per the database to gather follow-up information and verify or correct patient information.

  • Maintains the highest degree of confidentiality of all information encountered including verbal, written and computerized. Reports to manager any failure by anyone to protect confidential information.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency of ICD-10 and knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 CM/PCS, DMS Coding

  • Working knowledge of the policies and procedure manuals of the Tumor Registry and resources such as the American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC), TNM, FORDS, and SEER.

  • Analytical skills.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications.

  • Written and Verbal communication skills.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Currently certified as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) by National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) required. (If graduate of a School of Nursing program, must be licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing)

  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills

  • Work as a member of a team as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work

  • Regularly uses close visual acuity and operates computer equipment to prepare and analyze and transmit data

  • Generally works in an office environment

  • This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment verification.
