Mechanical Drafter

Contract position: A Mechanical Drafter is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in either the Rapid City, SD areas. This position is responsible for preparing 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Creo 3D software, assisting engineers in troubleshooting designs and drawings, and maintaining engineering release and change documentation. No per diem available. No travel is anticipated. 1st shift.

Responsibilities for the Mechanical Drafter

  • Create or modify 3D models and engineering drawings for use in manufacturing. Verify 3D models and engineering drawings meet the customers' needs.

  • Use PLM software for storing CAD files, creating engineering notices, and maintaining Bills of Material.

  • Work with Engineers and peers to troubleshoot design issues along with 3D model and engineering drawing issues and discrepancies.

Requirements for the Mechanical Drafter

  • Must have at least a Technical School Diploma or certificate in CAD with at least 5 years of CAD experience. An Associate's Degree in CAD is preferred.

  • Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably PTC Creo and/or Solidworks. Must have good mechanical aptitude and 3D spatial awareness. Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
