POET Accounting Intern in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
The Accounting Intern will learn about financial business models and infrastructure, reasoning to support decisions, and the complexity of the organizational structure of a privately held, multi-billion dollar business. The position is exposed to accounting principles, financial statement structure, and may assist with daily, monthly and year-end reporting preparation and transactional activities. This role will identify internal controls, participate in a variety of projects, and work closely with the accounting, tax, and finance departments at the POET headquarters and subsidiaries.

A TYPICAL DAY COULD INCLUDE
Prepare financial analysis and research variances to reconcile general ledger accounts.
Perform audits using various internal control policies.
Assist in cash strategies by analyzing financial data.
Design and improve financial reports to streamline data collection.
Maintain confidential files and databases.
Assist in preparing tax filings.
Perform various transactional duties, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Assist with special projects.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
High school diploma or equivalent
Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program; Accounting, Finance, etc. with a graduation within 1-2 years reach
You are self-motivated, flexible, and manage assignments independently and with a sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines
You are resourceful in resolving problems and apply professional customer service skills; maintain composure during adverse situations
You earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher
You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite, and you are capable of learning new programs
You are eager to learn, highly detailed, organized, and communicate well orally or in writing
