RFA Engineering Application Engineer in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is looking for a growth oriented candidates that wants to join our customer's team at it's facility in Canton, SD. The selected candidate will work with our customer's staff to support the development and production of engine cooling systems.
This is specifically a full time direct hire position, but there may be additional adjacent opportunities within our own organization available.
Applies standard product line offerings to design cooling system solutions from concept through final documentation and release to manufacturing.
Demonstrates expert level of design and analysis skills.
Daily interaction with the customer. Acts as an extension of our customer?s engineering team.
Utilization of APQP approach to application design.
Interprets and implements all or portions of a design with little to no supervision.
Responsible for static and dynamic analysis of the structure, to ensure functionality, efficient use of materials, and cost effectiveness.
Uses leadership skills and sound business judgment to support sales volume and profits.
Establishes strong, lasting relationships with customers.
Champions department improvement projects and staff development.
Must demonstrate a strong ability to design engine cooling and air conditioning components and have extensive knowledge in the physics of heat transfer and fluid flow phenomenon as applied to vehicles.
Knowledgeable of the application of materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Strong analytical skills including heat transfer analysis, stress analysis and energy balances within the cooling system.
Keeps current with new technology and new ideas in the industry to help maintain technological and competitive edge.
Applies sound analysis methods in the evaluation of heat transfer and structural requirements.
Demonstrates a high level of competency with solid modeling design software.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of production methods and the concept of designing for manufacturability, specifically in the processes of welding, brazing, and metal forming.
Must possess strong project management skills and employs the use of computer based prediction and tracking tools such as Microsoft Project and Excel.
Experience in the use of quality tools such as FMEAs, Design of Experiments, SPC, etc.
Works with the manufacturing personnel in order to design product consistent with current processes and their associated capability.
Effectively solves design-related problems identified during the fabrication and assembly of product and provides support as appropriate to shop personnel.
Prepares appropriate documentation related to design and engineering activities through the application of ANSI:Y14.5 drafting standards which includes geometric tolerancing.
Proficiency in statistics for generation of tolerances to existing processes.
Reviews the work of others for correctness and quality.
Interacts directly with customers as required.
Develops expert knowledge of engineering procedures, policies and design standards.
Actively works to improve and implement new methods of performing the design function.
Assists in the development and training of department staff.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
A Bachelor?s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master?s degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or an MBA a plus.
Three to five years of applicable experience.
Experience in a heat transfer business and/or automotive supplier would be a plus.
Experience in an OEM manufacturing setting.
Above average communication skills, organizational and interface skills.
Self-starting with the ability to operate well independently.
Detailed and results oriented.
