ABOUT POET DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
POET Design & Construction supports the mission by providing high quality, timely and cost-conscious engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services. We provide this support through value-added design and technology innovation from a knowledgeable, hard-working staff. We work closely as a multi-disciplinary team, in a dynamic, fast-paced, ever-changing environment delivering the best product in the industry. Additionally, POET Design & Construction performs procurement for the 27 POET Biorefineries in addition to the EPC services.
As a Buyer in this newly created position, you will be responsible for the strategic approach to purchasing assigned products for the POET Biorefineries and POET Design & Construction. You will maintain vendor relationships, negotiate the best value for POET, perform strategic analysis and decision-making, become highly knowledgeable and ensure appropriate risk management through thorough execution. The Buyer’s role is to provide as much value to POET through negotiation and critical thinking as possible.
A TYPICAL DAY COULD INCLUDE…
Fostering relationships with strategic suppliers to create innovative and collaborative partnerships.
Drives long-term strategies to generate supply chain improvements and efficiencies.
Supports strategies and processes to maintain optimum inventory levels that serve the production process, and ensure on-time deliveries.
Leads, negotiates and administers contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives to drive best value.
Evaluates and monitors contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes.
Supports and maintains risk management strategies.
Researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
Reviews and analyzes records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories to drive continuous improvement.
Resolves vendor or contractor issues, and claims against suppliers.
Monitors and initiates improvement projects to current processes or policies.
Collaborates with the biorefineries and EPC technical staff to ensure specifications and quality expectations continue to be met.
Partners with other procurement staff to ensure accurate and timely delivery with excellent customer service to our biorefineries and construction projects.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
Degree in business or technical field and 1 year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
P.M. certification preferred.
Great interpersonal skills, possessing a high degree of professionalism and customer service.
Demonstrated leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Strong strategic and analytical skills to include complex analysis.
Strong written and oral communication skills, decision-making, and problem solving abilities.
Excellent organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.

Eager to learn and change the world.
You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and value.
Up to 30% travel required which may include vendor visits, continuing education, and conferences.
Team members will be required to adhere to safety requirements in all work environments. This position operates in an office environment. Specific physical requirements may include:
Working at a personal computer for approximately 90% of the time where you can sit or stand.
Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.
