JOB SUMMARY: The Corporate Health Information Specialistassists the Vice President of Health Information Management in providing consultant services to health information management departments and billing offices with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding review, DRG and APC reimbursement issues, chargemaster reviews, and coordination of information between medical record and billing departments. Assists in the organization and presentation of educational workshops and seminars for Avera and non-Avera facilities. Assists the Vice President of Health Information Management with monitoring and dissemination of information relating to state and federal regulations and JCAHO Standards as they apply to a health information management in acute, long term, and ambulatory care facilities

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or an Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology. Bachelor's Degree is preferred._

  • Minimum of five year's experience in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding_

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Registered or accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). _

  • Certified as a Coding Specialist (CCS) by the AHIMA and Certified as Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P) by the AHIMA._

  • Applicants who are not certified are able to sit for the national exam within one year of employment. If the employee requires both the CCS and CCS-P, the employee is extended another year for the second exam_
