Job Summary

The Lead Systems Engineer guides the development and implementation of technical solutions for solving complex endpoint management problems which requires the use of ingenuity, creativity and technical leadership.

Provides technical guidance for the design, development and implementation of enterprise endpoint management platforms, tools, solutions, processes and standards that enable our customers to be productive while maintaining a secure environment that optimizes Sanford’s endpoint asset return on investment. This position provides technical direction over the Systems Engineers and Systems Administrators and works closely with the Systems Architect and management to establish and implement the technical vision, strategy and roadmaps for delivering endpoint management solutions that add value.

Guides the successful completion of major projects and may function in a project leadership role. Applies extensive technical expertise and has knowledge of other related disciplines including IT infrastructure, application and security architectures.

Works with the Systems Architect position to establish and implement an endpoint technology roadmap that includes operating system, device, virtual desktop and management platform life-cycle management. Reviews and approves high-impact changes for software delivery, endpoint policy updates and management platform upgrades. Transitions new solution support through the development of detailed support plans and knowledge transfer.

Initiates proof of concepts for evaluating new endpoint technology opportunities. Works with the System Architect, management and teams to develop business cases for justifying the use of new technology.

Mentors and trains new staff members, coordinates with Manager on staff issues. Provides guidance to team members on open issues. Designs and implements structure and operational processes.

Develops reports for and performs advanced audit reporting to insure software and operating system license compliance and endpoint security. Provides reporting solutions for managing the life-cycle and health of endpoints, platforms and tools. Assists the manager with resource allocation, project assignment and department time tracking. Performs supervisory duties when manager is away.

Champions best practices for aligning goals with organizational strategy. Monitors IT industry trends and directions; makes recommendations to senior management.

Takes an active role in applying methods, theories and research techniques to provide input for establishing ongoing direction, specification, design, development and implementation of endpoint technology vision and strategy. Leads in the establishment of standards, processes and best practices based on IT industry trend analysis.

Stays up to date on industry trends, products, applications, technical service, market conditions, competitive activities in end user computing / digital workspace / modern desktop. Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, and implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies.

Works on large, complex endpoint management initiatives that address future concepts, products or technologies; analyzes and evaluates all variable factors and risk. Assists with defining, developing, communicating, and implementing standards, processes, and procedures for the team and organization.

Accurately scopes deliverables including dependencies, risks and issues and demand estimating to ensure seamless delivery, technology effectiveness and security. Provides guidance and oversight of technical matters within a solution to ensure that the technologies are secure, interoperate and connect appropriately while supporting company vision. Provides technical guidance and advice to project teams.

Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements. Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel to facilitate purchases.

Provides advanced troubleshooting services to team members to resolve critical systems issues in a timely fashion.

Collaborates with the System Architect, management and team to recommend adjustments to the endpoint architecture to improve the overall quality. Listens to and evaluates customer needs to determine and provide high quality solutions that align with business expectations; Identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures others are aligned with customer expectations.

Must have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to work as both part of a team and independently, with an ability to work complex projects with little or no supervision.

Experience with the design and deployment of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (ECM/SCCM) required.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, management information systems or related field preferred. In lieu of a degree, will accept eight years of directly related experience.

  • Experience with the design and deployment of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (ECM/SCCM) required.

  • Minimum of three years of experience managing projects and/or providing technical direction.

  • Minimum of five years’ experience with hardware and software desktop support.

  • Experience with Windows desktop operating systems.

  • Knowledge of Security and Network Principles.

  • Experience with a variety of enterprise applications.

  • Experience with Active Directory \ Azure endpoint group policies, OU structures and security groups.

  • Office 365 use and configuration experience.

  • Advanced application packaging, operating system imaging and deployment, security patching.

  • TIL v3 or v4 foundation certification preferred.

When applicable, may need a valid driver's license. If valid driver's license is required, must meet all medical guidelines for Sanford Health Category III drivers.
