What we are looking for in the Manager, Treasury Operations-Premium Accounting.

You will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Premium Accounting department. Required to have thorough understanding of the various types of payments processed by/for SFG such as Lockbox, EFile, CCUI, MMA, Wire & ACH, One-Time ACH, CyberSource, including checks received in-house and the various Administrative Systems the payments are processed through. Assure compliance of AML and SAR regulatory requirements for Cash Equivalents with procedures designed to achieve and maintain the level of internal controls sufficient to meet regulatory requirements. Communicate effectively with all departments in all locations regarding all administrative systems as it relates to these treasury functions while incorporating our shared values. Hold team accountable to both technical work standards and service levels but also to expected interpersonal and professional work demeanor. Significant risk is inherent in this position due to the financial activity that is supervised and the level of controls that are necessary.

  • Ability to direct all payment transactions through various types of payments processed by/for SFG such as Lockbox, EFile, CCUI, MMA, Wire and ACH, One-Time ACH, CyberSource, including checks received in-house and the various Administrative Systems the payments are processed through.

  • Ability to have a clear understanding of the Jobs that impact each automated file and how they interact with each other. To play a key role in projects and special projects. To be able to troubleshoot, identify issues and understand how and when to escalate. As well as proactively work toward identifying, solving, and communicating issues before a service breakdown or complaint occurs.

  • Assist others with escalated and complex issues by leveraging technical and professional knowledge and skills, and delegating resolution steps as applicable.

  • Ability to direct all activities related to Cash Equivalents assuring compliance of AML and SAR regulatory requirements with procedures designed to achieve and maintain the level of internal controls while partnering with Financial Crimes Team through Patriot Manager.

  • Ability to direct all activities related to balancing all payments, researching and troubleshooting any inconsistencies.

  • Ability to maintain the department’s high level of accuracy in reconciliation of accounting and balancing of negotiable items and maintain security over negotiable documents at all times.

  • Ability to distribute, direct and balance workloads and workflow to ensure turnaround time and quality service levels are met including performing continual analysis of the process; propose and support projects that will advance the knowledge and enhance the work procedures within the department.

  • Participate in the training, coaching, and development of team members, with a focus of meeting the needs of the business and customers.

  • Regulate, monitor, and approve staffs’ PTO to ensure the department is properly staffed at all times and address any absenteeism patterns that impact the performance of the department and team.

  • Sammons Financial Group (SFG) member companies’ liaison for Wells Fargo, Bank of New York Mellon, Citi Bank, and FHLB for all banking activity.

  • Ability to have a clear understanding of how our functions impact SFG customers and other departments.

  • Partner with AVP of Treasury Operations in completing the annual budget for Premium Accounting team.

  • Build and sustain a highly productive team open to change and continuous improvement, utilizing excellent interviewing skills, strong merit feedback, and successful incentive programs.

  • Communicate effectively with areas outside of Corporate Accounting to proactively identify and implement projects that impact the Premium Accounting processes and functions.

  • Apply extensive knowledge of SFG technology platforms, programming jobs, or new technology in order to effectively anticipate and utilize staff to implement changes in the organization.

  • Apply knowledge of the SFG entities, business units, chart of accounts, processes and controls in order to effectively anticipate and utilize staff to implement changes in the organization.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels across the organization including several geographic locations.

  • Effectively communicate meaningful and actionable information to meet the business needs of upper management as it relates to the regulatory risk and expense management.

  • Oversee the documentation and maintenance of all written job duties, procedures and internal control functions related to the Premium Accounting Team.

  • Assist in the identifying, prioritizing and assigning special assignments of projects.

  • Provide support to Premium Accounting staff in order to develop and maintain a high performance culture that encompasses the SFG member company core values.

  • Maintain a flexible schedule to cover treasury functions during non-company business hours when banks and other financial institutions remain open.

  • As stated within the Company Attendance and Punctuality policy, regular attendance is required and expected in order to meet the business service levels and workflow demands.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance (preferred) or Accounting required

  • Minimum 8 years' Treasury and/or banking experience with a Bank or Financial Institution is required including knowledge of BAI transaction descriptions, regulatory and NACHA requirements and collateral perfection required

  • Aptitude to look beyond existing systems in order to propose enhancements

  • Demonstrated leadership through developing, coaching and mentoring a team

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with and communicate with senior leaders outside of Corporate Accounting and external auditors

  • High degree of analytical and critical thinking skills and a professional judgement disposition

  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues and lead resources within a team to achieve results

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, delegate and allocate time and resources effectively; ability to meet strict deadlines is necessary

  • High degree of professionalism, motivation and intellectual curiosity; courage to address challenging issues in a professional and positive fashion

  • Ability to adapt to change and learn quickly

  • Desire to attain or further insurance-industry specific skills beyond accounting and finance

  • Ability to lead a team’s ability to identify and apply appropriate software to efficiently achieve objectives

  • Demonstrated ability to research and implement existing and emerging insurance industry GAAP and stat accounting concepts

  • Strong knowledge of insurance products and how the economics of those products are reflected in accounting results
