Sweetman Const. Co. Portable Plant Lead in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

This position starts out at $20.35 per hour, depending on experience.


Monitor the activities of miners by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates as approved by the Quarry Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintain safe work environment through a variety of means including worker training and safety inspections.

  • Monitor inventory levels, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments based on plant capacity and product orders and report to the Quarry Superintendent any recommendations.

  • Review operations and confer with Quarry Superintendent to resolve production or processing problems.

  • Monitor product standards to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality.

  • Collaborate with Quarry Superintendent and provide suggestions or recommendations for improving operations.

  • Monitor performance of workers and report any performance or conduct issues to Quarry Superintendent, providing documentation as needed.

  • Prepare and maintain production reports and maintenance records.

  • Requisition materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services.

  • Set up and adjust machines and equipment.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Limited authority to oversee a group of non-exempt employees in the Quarry. Assigns tasks, directs activities and monitors performance all employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the following computer software or systems skills:

  • Timekeeping systems

  • Inventory software

  • Manufacturing software

  • Spreadsheet software and

  • Word Processing software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to have the following physical abilities:

  • Stand; walk or sit for long periods of time

  • Use arms, hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard or mouse

  • Talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to:

  • Climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee is occasionally required to:

  • Lift and/or move 75-100 pounds with assistance.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include:

  • Close vision

  • Distance vision

  • Depth perception and

  • Ability to adjust focus.

This position may require you to wear a half mask respirator at times and therefore, you will be required to be fit tested. Per OSHA “The Respiratory Protection standard, paragraph 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A), states that respirators shall not be worn when facial hair comes between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interferes with valve function. Facial hair is allowed as long as it does not protrude under the respirator seal, or extend far enough to interfere with the device's valve function. Short mustaches, sideburns, and small goatees that are neatly trimmed so that no hair compromises the seal of the respirator usually do not present a hazard and, therefore, do not violate paragraph 1910.134(g)(1)(i)

Work Environment

The work environment is a manufacturing plant environment that includes exposure to:

  • Fumes or airborne particles

  • Extreme heat

  • Moving mechanical parts

  • Toxic or caustic chemicals

  • Outside weather conditions, and

  • Loud noise.


During our production season, hours are typically 4:30am-5:00pm M-F and most Saturdays 4:30am-noon. During our maintenance season, hours are typically 7am-5pm Monday-Thursday.
