DESCRIPTION Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT) has an immediate need for an energetic and dynamic Principal Network Engineer in support of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center ( near Sioux Falls, SD ( The EROS Centerwide Information Technology Team (CITT) has an opening for a Principal Network Engineer. This position is an integral part of a diverse team, with primary responsibilities for support of EROS network environments. The Principal Network Engineer s role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer network. This includes planning, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. This person will also analyze and resolve end-user network-related hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user training as required. In addition to OandM duties, the Principal Network Engineer will also provide key input and development for strategic network and security infrastructure initiatives including Software-Defined Networking, Next Generation Firewalls, automation, orchestration, and multi-tenant service architectures. Ideally, the candidate will have previous experience in a Managed Service Provider environment or experience with providing Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service and understands the networking and security requirements to support those services. Candidates must have strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a teamwork emphasis. Candidates must also be able to integrate into a highly-skilled Information Technology Team.Education:Minimum of Bachelor s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science. Education may be substituted for experience at manager s discretion. Experience:Minimum of twelve years of directly-related technical, professional experience required. Network Operations Skills: * Configure and perform diagnostics on network infrastructure components. * Understand and troubleshoot the following network layers, technologies, and system protocols: TCP/IP, UDP/IP, BGP, OSPF, SNMP, SSL, HTTP, FTP, SSH, Syslog, DHCP, DNS, RDP, NETBIOS, IP routing, Ethernet, switched Ethernet, 802.11x, NFS, and VLANs. * Understand and maintain network security appliances (firewalls, etc.) and the concepts and procedures for network security. * Maintain and support wireless network access technologies, equipment, and tools. * Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
