Software Engineer / Web Developer

KBR and its subcontractors provide engineering and operational support for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Center for Earth Resources Observation & Science ( EROS ) near Sioux Falls, SD . This position is for an entry to mid-level Software Engineer with a Web Development background to join our talented team in creating exciting, cutting edge web-based mapping tools for Science projects.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining websites and mapping-applications for visualizing and distributing geospatial data. The candidate is expected to have a technical background in developing web applications. The candidate will support a diverse array of technologies including, but not limited to: PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML. Knowledge of Geographic mapping technologies such as ArcGIS Server, GeoServer, KML and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) specifications are desired. The candidate will be interacting with a skilled web development team that supports the USGS EROS Science Branch.

Education: Minimum of a Bachelors degree

Experience: 2 years of related technical experience

Required Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Well versed in software engineering methodology and processes

  • Experience with Web design, administration and database-driven applications

  • Experience with PHP, MySQL and HTML/CSS

  • Experience with security concepts.

  • Experience with SharePoint

  • Familiarity with Java, Flex and Javascript

  • Familiarity with Python coding

  • Familiarity with Laravel or other frame works

Other Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with requirements and design analysis.

  • Experience with testing and CM tools such as GIT.

  • Experience with GIS systems and Tools (commercial or open source)

  • Experience with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Specifications including WMS, WFS, WCS, CS-W.

  • Experience with Photoshop or other image editing software.

  • Familiarity with spatial data, reference and projection systems

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.

The candidate must have prior 3 year U.S. residency
