The Meade County Firewise Program assists Veteran-qualified individuals based on federal funding. iTheiProgram's (as well as this position's) continuance is not guaranteed if federal funding ceases.Closing date: Open Until FilledUnder the supervision of the Commission Assistant/Human Resources Office, is responsible for coordinating and executing field operations for the efforts of fire mitigation under the Meade County Firewise Program.TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Implementation of fire mitigation efforts under the Meade County Firewise Program.Fall trees, remove brush and limbs.Direct and train Fire Mitigation Specialists in the field operations of the Program.Educate and work with private landowners regarding the Firewise Communities Program and best practices in fire mitigation.Identify trees to be thinned for Firewise mitigation efforts.Data collection with GPS as assigned.Maintain accurate records, including bills, invoices, receipts, and reports.Educate and promote new ideas and concepts to others.Foster a positive and motivated work environment for Fire Mitigation Specialists.Perform additional duties as required, performing all duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification.Knowledge of wildland fire management, fire behavior, causes of fire, influence of weather, topography and fuels on fire, and methods of extinguishing fire is preferred.A Veteran, as defined under SDCL 33A-2-1.Physical strength and stamina sufficient to perform maintenance, and work extended hours as necessary.Ability to demonstrate good communication and organizational skills and ability to work well with others and maintain a professional relationship with the general public and other employees.Ability to train others.
