Motorsport Aftermarket Group J&P Cycles - Retail Manager in Sturgis, South Dakota

Primary Purpose of Position

This position is responsible for ensuring that operations in our retail stores run in a smooth and effective manner; from inventory and cash management to staffing, coaching, scheduling, merchandising, sales, and customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages a team consisting of Supervisors, Team Leads, Sales Technicians, and Sales Associates in daily activities and providing external customer service with the general public.

  • Plans and executes the Annual Sturgis Rally, including sales projections, product ordering, inventory management, staffing and overall management.

  • Makes major strategic decisions and implements business improvements and is responsible for the profitability of the store.

  • Maintains standards of visual merchandising, inventory levels, advertisements, promotions, and special events.

  • Develops and manages budgets.

  • Demonstrates strong leadership ability and directs the activities of team members.

  • Displays effective conflict resolution skills with team members and external customers.

  • Keeps accurate records of sales, merchandise, and procedures in order to meet/exceed revenue projections.

  • Works with considerable independence and resolves retail operational issues.

  • Displays superior communication skills that will enable one to communicate with all levels within the organization to set a positive example for the team.

  • Trains and conducts annual reviews of all departmental team members.

  • Responsible for staff conduct in a manner consistent with the company’s operating procedures.

  • Oversees inventory control, and conducts inventory audits to ensure shrinkage is in line with company objectives.

  • Maintains and models a calm demeanor during periods of high volume, while keeping the store operating at a high standard.

  • Reviews the store environment and key business indicators to identify deficiencies, concerns and opportunities for improvement.

  • Communicates ideas and issues to the Senior Director of Retail for future planning and broader business benefit.

  • Manages vendor relations and inventory requirements on a regular basis, while ensuring retail stock is organized and displays of merchandise are maintained in a neat and presentable manner for the customers.

  • Models a “customer first” attitude through the delivery of superior customer service.

Educational and Experience Requirements

An Associate’s degree and/or 5 plus years of directly related work experience are required for this position. Previous supervisory experience in a retail setting is necessary for this position. Prior experience in merchandising, purchasing, and inventory control is preferred.

Other Special Requirements

  • Excellent decision-making and leadership abilities as well as stellar communication skills.

  • Strong merchandising experience including developing visual marketing strategies, knowledge of stock replenishment standards, and inventory controls.

  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining sales and operational programs with a focus on superior customer service.

  • Ability to work under pressure in this fast-paced environment, serving many different types of customers and resolving inter-team conflicts smoothly in an effective manner.

  • Demonstrated financial results in sales and store operations.

  • The talent to train and motivate a winning customer-focused sales team.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work under a flexible schedule that may fluctuate with seasonal demand, including day, night and weekend availability.

The team member is frequently required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
